Cerys Matthews shot into the limelight as the formidable frontwoman to multi-million-selling nineties Britpop band Catatonia.

Graduating from the band in the mid-noughties, the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has since worked with the likes of Arun Ghosh, Tunde Jegede, Attab Haddad, Tom Jones, Frank Moon, the London Bulgarian Choir and Ballet Cymru.

She’s also an esteemed author and broadcaster, hosting a famously eclectic Sunday morning music show on BBC 6Music and writing and presenting documentaries for television and radio.

We caught up with Cerys at the recent Jazz FM Awards to hear her thoughts on the state of UK jazz, her love for many musical flavours and her commitment to bringing new sounds to the radio.

The Jazz FM Awards is a partnership between Jazz FM and Serious, with the support of Grange Hotels, Mishcon De Reya, PPL, RCS, 7digital, Yamaha, Arqiva, Pink Pepper Gin, Fever Tree and Denbies Wine Estate.
