Deafkid Part 1

Anglo-French pair Deafkid sound like they have studied the off-kilter pop music of their native lands to develop a strain of electro-pop that is fresh, exciting and more than a bit odd. The quirky genetics of their songs carry elements of alt-J, Django Django, Panda Bear and El Guincho, although Christopher Lockington and Florian Sauvaire cite their main influences as Three Trapped Tigers, Mew, Cant and Eskmo. Watch them perform new single Vigilante here.

Anglo-French pair Deafkid sound like they have carefully studied the off-kilter pop music of their native lands to develop a strain of electro-pop that is fresh, exciting and more than a bit odd.

The quirky genetics of their songs carry elements of alt-J, Django Django, Panda Bear and El Guincho, although Christopher Lockington and Florian Sauvaire cite their main influences as Three Trapped Tigers, Mew, Cant and Eskmo.

Chris and Flo have honed their eclectic style through their day jobs as session musicians. Prior to forming Deafkid, they worked with experimental hip-hop artist Ghostpoet and provided additional production on his Mercury Prize-nominated album Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam.

Debut double A-side single Talk/Pig was released towards the end of 2012, gaining support from NME and Clash. Meanwhile, latest single Vigilante maintains their energetic sound, blending together a mixture of electronica, experimental and pop.

We went along to Tileyard Studios, near Kings Cross, London, where Chris and Flo gave us an exclusive live performance of Vigilante. Watch it below.

Special thanks to sound engineer Cicely Balston for her technical support, Nick Keynes, co-founder of Tileyard Studios and Hinako Omori of Tape Club Records.
