The 2011 Latitude Festival will be providing the weekend’s soundtrack for  thousands of revellers, offering a wide selection of bands and artists. Artists topping the bill include The National, Paolo Nutini, Suede, Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals and Eels.

We’ve been hearing from a number of artists who are due to perform at Latitude, who talk about what they are looking forward to seeing at the festival, what they’ve got planned for their performances and who their fantasy host would be…

Esben and the Witch
Who is your ‘must see’ performance at Latitude this year?
Deerhunter and Foals are both wonderful live so one of them I reckon.

Not including items used in your performance, what is your ‘must-have’ festival item?
An overcoat to wear in the rain or lie on in the sun.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
On occasion it can feel that the festival environment can be somewhat at odds with the atmosphere we aim to create playing live. We have designed a set to counter this.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
Sylvia Plath. We like her words and have already constructed an introduction of sorts using them.

If you have been to Latitude before what was your favourite memory, performance or special spot on site?
Watching Archie Bronson Outfit in the forest one evening.

Latitude is…
...pleasingly arboraceous.

Esben and the Witch
Who is your 'must see' performance at Latitude this year?
We'll go for The National on Friday night. To my knowledge none of us have seen them live yet so it might be a nice treat after a long drive down from Glasgow on the opening night.

Not including items used in your performance, what is your 'must-have' festival item?
Valium. Joke. I don’t go anywhere without my Hiberniam FC vintage towel. It doubles as a pedal board sometimes too. Very handy, extremely fashionable, durable, lightweight. It's a towel.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
This summer will be our first time playing English festivals so we'll be playing mostly songs from our debut album which came out in the UK this past March. Hopefully all the shows we do are a little special particularly if they are in strange and wonderful settings. The Lake Stage certainly sounds like one such place.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
I reckon there would be few people to get a crowd right up for a gig/fight than Mel Gibson as William Wallace circa Braveheart dressed in full regalia and warpaint. Aye.

Latitude...
...(usually denoted by the Greek letter phi (?)) is often measured in degrees, with minutes and seconds for finer measurements. For example, the Eiffel Tower has a latitude of 48° 51? 29? N-- that is, 48 degrees plus 51 minutes plus 29 seconds. Alternatively, latitude may be measured entirely in degrees, e.g. 48.8583° N.

Esben and the Witch
Who is your 'must see' performance at Latitude this year?
Os Mutantes for sure - I've been a fan since I bought one of their cds on spec years ago after seeing its crazy psychedelic cover twinkling out at me from a sea of worthy world music records.

Not including items used in your performance, what is your 'must-have' festival item?
A bottle opener, preferably with wine/beer dual functionality.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
Oh yes - far too much in fact. We're a collective so we debate all this kind of stuff endlessly and usually end up not deciding anything. At least for Latitude we've started the debate nice and early.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
Klaus Kinski, just back from playing Lope de Aguirre in the Amazon - angry and drunk, with a beautiful woman on his arm and a monkey on his shoulder.

If you have been to Latitude before what was your favourite memory, performance or special spot on site?
We've never yet been to Latitude, but we're keen on Tim Hunkin's crazy machines at Southwold Pier - does that count?

Latitude is…
…far too exciting to talk about in an articulate manner.

Latitude is taking place from 14th – 17th July 2011 at Henham Park Estate, Southwold, Suffolk.
