The Ivors Academy and IMPF, the Independent Music Publishers International Forum, have entered into a new alliance to create closer and stronger working relationships between music creators in the UK and Ireland and worldwide independent music publishers.

The COVID-19 crisis has created a global crisis for the music sector and creative industries, exposing the need to accelerate reform to ensure that music creators and publishers can continue to thrive during this period of disruption.

The changes we are undergoing across societies, in consumer behaviour and technology, and with an uncertain economic outlook have highlighted the industry’s commitment to be equitable, inclusive, and adaptable in order to support the careers of music creators and invest in future talent.

Crispin Hunt, chair, The Ivors Academy, said: ‘While the global music industry continues to evolve at speed, there is a single, simple truth that underpins the entire business: everything starts with the creativity, talent, and ingenuity of music creators. Songwriters and composers invent the music, and publishers enable their creativity. Recognising, rewarding and nurturing that talent, and ensuring that music creators can make a living is the foundation of the industry, without this partnership the music the world loves simply wouldn’t exist. Promoting this truth is at the heart of The Ivors Academy, and the opportunity to work with IMPF to create a music ecosystem that recognises and values this is truly exciting.’

Annette Barrett, president and chair of the board of directors, IMPF, said: ‘Championing songwriters and publishers is at the core of what IMPF stands for and I am delighted to ally with The Ivors Academy, particularly at this time when the very future of the music we love is under threat from the devastating consequences of Covid-19. Consolidating our joint outreach couldn’t come at a better moment and we are very proud to work with The Ivors Academy on the myriad of issues we have in common as we help rebuild our community.’

IMPF is a global network and meeting place for independent music publishers and represents the interests of the independent music publishing community internationally. IMPF works to ensure its members' music is licenced everywhere easily and without borders and most importantly advocates for composers and songwriters to be rewarded fairly for their work.

IMPF is based in Brussels, the home of the European Institutions. With members located everywhere across the globe, IMPF can act quickly on policy and key legislation affecting writers and their music publishing companies anywhere.
