Nigel Elderton - peermusic 

Nigel Elderton

Nigel began his career at Chappell Music in 1975 and joined EMI Music Publishing a year later where he remained for the next 12 years.

During this period Nigel worked in various departments including finance, radio/TV promotion, and as Creative Manager. He established the first dedicated synchronisation division within EMI Music which enjoyed great success throughout the 80’s and beyond.

Nigel replicated this success setting up a similar sync’ division at MCA Music before moving on to Polygram Music where he worked under Lucian Grainge dealing with both sync’ licencing, cross business opportunities (records and publishing) and the substantial catalogue writer roster.

Nigel accepted the role of UK MD of peermusic in 1992 and was subsequently appointed European President of the company in 2011.

Nigel is an active member of many music industry bodies including:

  • Director and former Chairman of the Music Publishers Association
  • Director of PRS (former Deputy Chairman)
  • Director of MCPS (former Chairman)
  • Director of IMPEL
  • Founding Trustee of The Performing Right Society Foundation
  • Director UK Music (retired)

In 2005 he was awarded the Gold Badge of Distinction by the British Acadamy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA).

In 2007 Nigel was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts. (FRSA).

More recently Nigel was awarded the Music Publishers Association’s highest honour the MPA Gold Badge for distinguished service to the music publishing industry.

Nigel is married with two children.
