I came from a music business background brought up with Motown and Rock ‘N Roll. The love of music publishing started with meeting famous publishers such as George Pincus and Bobby Mellin when I was young. First job in the business was a business training at CBS Records, followed by a year for my cousin, music publisher David Toff, promotion and plugging, from David Toff Music I moved to Page One Records, did promotion work for Larry Page, surviving record plugging and still in love with publishing joined Welbeck Music as head of Petty Cash etc., signing in my newly created position as professional manager songwriters Barry Blue and Lynsey de Paul, the company, which was owned by ATV television, turned itself into ATV Music and purchased Northern Songs, after being made a Director and spending eight years at ATV made the dreaded move into Independent publishing and formed Heath Levy Music with former MD at ATV Music Geoff Heath, this very lively partnership lasted another eight years.
Chelsea Music was formed nearly 30 years ago, a bijoux feisty company that stands up for its rights and does battle on behalf of its clients. Its first hits came from Curiosity Killed the Cat and blossomed into the signing of many great catalogues including Bill Withers, the Sinatra catalogue Barton Music, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Madeleine Peyroux, represented Rolf Budde Music for over 30 years, Andre Rieu, and many other interesting clients including Sugar Music and Andrea Bocelli for 16 great years.
After many years of not being involved politically in the business, I decided to come back to the frontline to speak up for publishers who are fighting for their dwindling rights and to have an input with new suggestions and ideas.
