Join our member listening circles
We're running these diversity and inclusion sessions to understand more about how we can improve as an organisation and better support you as our members.
Two years ago we signed up to a pledge to fully embrace inclusivity and diversity in everything we do, recent events this summer have driven home that we must do more.
As an organisation we took part in Black Out Tuesday on 2 June. This sparked a series of internal conversations and highlighted that we need to focus on achieving representation across all areas of the business, governance, management and you, our members. We must work together to understand what being anti-racist means and what sustainable steps are needed to tackle inequality in all its forms in our industry.
We’re inviting you to participate in a series of listening circles facilitated by Sonia Meggie and Marvin Aristotle from London-based social enterprise Inspirational YOU. The aim of the circles is to develop awareness and to stimulate and facilitate real, honest constructive and respectful discussions. This makes a very direct link between the issues discussed following Black Out Tuesday and your everyday work environment.
A variety of data sources tell us that we are uncomfortable talking about race. This goes unaddressed in many organisations and remains a major barrier to achieving greater race diversity and inclusion. The sessions will explore race and culture issues generally avoided within the music industry. You’ll be asked to share real-life experiences (if you feel comfortable) that will aid our focused discussions.
The outputs of these conversations will help to inform our Diversity and Inclusion approach and strategy.
There will be two 90-minute sessions:
Tuesday 6 October – 10am – 11:30am (all members welcome)
Wednesday 7 October – 7pm – 8:30pm (for our Black, Asian and minority ethnic members only)
We have a limited number of spaces available in each session. If you’re interested in attending, please fill out our listening circle survey. We will let you know via email if you have secured a place.
You don’t need to prepare in any way. We know that people might be nervous to participate but we want you to know that these sessions are a safe space to have honest conversations and to share ideas, thoughts and experiences in relation to this very important issue.
Rest assured the conversation is ongoing and we’ll be organising more listening circles soon.
