The Ukrainian Agency of Copyright and Related Rights (UACRR) has hit a royalty high in 2017 following shows by Depeche Mode and Muse.
Royalty collections for a concert by electronic rock legends Depeche Mode in July yielded the largest amount in the society’s history, while the licensing of Muse shows and the Eurovision Song Contest also boosted revenues.
UACRR said it worked closely with PRS for Music to achieve the result: ‘This concert reiterated that copyright is starting to be respected in Ukraine, summarising efforts by UACRR and our British partner, PRS for Music.
‘Despite a problematic collective management situation in Ukraine, UACRR uses its best efforts to protect the interests of authors whose works are used in Ukraine.’
In May 2017, UACRR licensed the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, achieving recognition from the rightsholder community around Europe for its positive action.
The society is currently transforming itself from a government agency to organisation accountable to and regulated by authors and composers.
