Glastonbury institution the Strummerville Campfire Sessions will play host to a show by folk-pop troupe Mumford and Sons tonight, organisers can reveal.

Mumford and Sons sold more than a million copies of debut album Sigh No More through Island Records last year, but worked with the Strummerville charity at the start of their career.

Tonight they will appear at 10pm by the Joe Strummer memorial stone in the Unfair Ground, kicking off a night of entertainment from bands associated with the charity.

The charity was formed by the late Joe Strummer’s family, and works to promote young songwriters in the UK and overseas. It has launched projects all over the world, granting those in impoverished areas access to music.

Earlier this week, M caught up with Trish Whelan, who runs the charity, and she explained: ‘Mumford and Sons came through us; they were our most downloaded band on our DIY project for a long time. They are so inspiring for our other young bands because they can see how well Mumford and Sons have done. It’s sure to be a great night for Strummerville.’
