Earlier this year, a PRS Foundation report found that the music industry still poses a ‘challenging environment’ for women.

The research, which was launched in parliament to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, was based on interviews with 157 previous Women Make Music Fund recipients.

According to the findings, 78 percent said that they had experienced sexism while working in the music industry, stating that there was a lack of recognition of what woman contribute and achieve within the music industry.

In more positive news, the report found that 79 percent of Women Make Music grantees said the fund significantly helped their confidence by enabling them to grow their professional profile.
