Jazz Warriors bassist Gary Crosby OBE and jazz composer Michael Gibbs are among the 12 musicians and industry leaders to be honoured at the 2017 Gold Badge Awards.
Crosby was an instrumental figure in the seminal eighties band and has since gone on to support hundreds of aspiring jazz musicians as founder and artistic director of Tomorrow’s Warriors.
Gibbs has also been a major influence on British jazz and jazz/rock fusion, playing trombone for Graham Collier and John Dankworth before going on to work with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Whitney Houston, Peter Gabriel and Sister Sledge.
Also honoured at this year’s awards are Ivor Novello Award-winning artist Emeli Sande, Human League founder Martyn Ware and conductor George Vass.
Other recipients will include independent publisher Sarah Liversedge, founder of BDi, Sound and Music chief executive Susanna Eastburn, Westbury Music’s Paulette Long and Air-Edel’s managing director Maggie Rodford, who will be presented her award in association with PRS for Music.
The Gold Badge Awards are hosted by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), and sponsored by PPL and PRS for Music.
Over the last 44 years, they’ve celebrated the unique contribution of individuals who have supported or inspired the UK songwriting and composing community. Launched in 1974, the Awards have recognised over 500 outstanding individuals.
The 2017 ceremony takes place at The Savoy, London, on 2 October.
