First Light award National Lottery money, on behalf of the UK Film Council for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to produce short digital films and media projects.  Each year around 500 grants are awarded and all the grant recipients attend the First Light Awards.

“First Light is such a great initiative and will help young people tell their own stories how they want to tell them.”
Danny Boyle, Oscar Winning Director

PRS for Music is sponsoring the ‘Best Original Music’ category, the nominees are:

PRS for Music is proud to support the UK’s youngest film makers and the music creators whose compositions add so much to the films.  Music and film are such close creative industries that for PRS for Music increasing the awareness of the music copyright in film is an important  message and no there is nowhere better to start that than at the beginning of a film maker’s career.

The winner is chosen by judges:
Nichola Burley – Actress (Streetdance, Soulboy)
Glenn Freemantle – Composer (Slumdog Millionaire, Nanny McPhee, Harry Brown
David Arnold – Composer (James Bond, Stargate, Hot Fuzz, Little Britain)
