Ed Sheeran’s X has overtaken Coldplay’s Ghost Stories to become the biggest selling album of the year so far, new figures have revealed.

Ed Sheeran’s X has overtaken Coldplay’s Ghost Stories to become the biggest selling album of the year so far, new figures have revealed.

According to Official Charts Company data, the second album from the acclaimed British singer songwriter has sold more than 634,000 copies since its release back in June.

X is the fastest selling album of the year after shifting more than 182,000 copies during its first week of release. The record has since been certified double platinum by music industry trade body the BPI.

Ed said: ‘I’m so happy people have been enjoying my album so much - great to hear that it’s still the biggest seller of the year and has now gone double platinum too. Looking forward to playing it live to my UK fans when the tour starts next week!’

Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour and Coldplay’s Ghost Stories round off the top three best sellers. Sam has sold 487,000 copies of his debut album while Coldplay shifted 470,000 units of their record.
