Robin Richards, bassist with indie pop act Dutch Uncles, has unveiled a new solo EP of classical compositions.

Washington Trapeze is an instrumental piece in three movements and will be released on 16 September.

Robin will debut the piece live today at Festival No 6 in Portmeirion with celebrated composer and conductor Joe Duddell and a classical ensemble.

Joe is well known for his collaborations with Elbow and the Hallé orchestra and Richard Hawley and the BBC Philharmonic.

Richards said: ‘I've always used rhythmic, melodic and mathematical themes to realise concepts, taking influence from composers such as Steve Reich and Igor Stravinsky.

‘Where Dutch Uncles' concepts have always been firmly based around pop, this time I've taken the opportunity to create a more long-form soundtrack in three movements, an intricate and emotive piece based on the most technically demanding form of circus performance; written for a string quartet, electric guitars and tuned percussion’.

The performance follows an announcement of a run of live dates for Dutch Uncles through November and December with their string ensemble, Out Of Touch In The Wild Light Orchestra.
