Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Kasabian, Biffy Clyro, Stormzy (pictured above) and Royal Blood are among the acts confirmed for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull next month.

BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw announced the line-up today (Thursday), which also includes Rita Ora, Clean Bandit, alt-J, Mura Masa, Twin Atlantic, Dua Lipa and Circa Waves.

The Big Weekend will coincide with the UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations in the city.

50,000 free tickets were snapped up earlier this month in under 50 minutes, with 95 percent of them going to the local area.

In the lead-up to Big Weekend, Radio 1 and BBC Learning will produce Radio 1’s Academy, which aims to inspire local 16 to19 year-olds to take the next step in creative careers.

The Academy includes a series of special events, local engagement and face-to-face activity in the area, culminating in May with a packed week of radio shows, gigs, masterclasses and Q&As.

Rita Ora said: ‘So excited I can’t even tell you, it’s so long overdue. It’s the best news ever - I’m so happy.

‘They’re so up for it (Hull crowd). I can always tell you that no matter what happens, Big Weekend is probably one of the funnest festivals I’ve ever performed at.’
