Artist and Manager Awards 2019 winners announced

Stormzy, his manager Tobe Onwuka and the entire team at #Merky took home a surprise award at the 2019 Artist & Manager Awards (A&MAs).

Stormzy, his manager Tobe Onwuka and the entire team at #Merky (pictured) took home a surprise award at the 2019 Artist & Manager Awards (A&MAs).

The previously unannounced Team Achievement Award was presented to Stormzy and his team collectively for their immense contribution to British music and culture.

#Merky incorporates music management, a record label, book publishing, a clothing brand and scholarship scheme and Stormzy described #Merky as a ‘powerhouse’ and ‘a family.’

He also paid tribute to each member of his team, saying, ‘My team is my everything.’

Nile Rodgers, Rebecca Boulton & Andy Robinson (New Order / Joy Division), Lewis Capaldi, Debbie Gwyther and Neneh Cherry were also recognised at central London ceremony, which took place at the Bloomsbury Big Top and sponsored by disruptive hospitality brand Selina.

Manchester’s Aitch was crowned 2019’s Breakthrough Artist and Sophie Bloggs was (YMU Music) named Breakthrough Manager.

Sam Fender & Owain Davies, Andy Varley (Insanity Group) and Sandy Dworniak (This Much Talent) also took home awards.

The event was founded by the Music Managers Forum (MMF) and Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) to showcase achievement and excellence in the artist and management community.

The 2019’s Awards featured performances from acclaimed singer-songwriter Tom Grennan and rising UK star Jvck James and the ceremony was hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.

Nile Rogers was given a career-best award for Artists’ Artist, which was sponsored by PPL, and he collected his award from Blur’s Alex James and David Rowntree (FAC’s Artist In Residence).

Rebecca Boulton and Andy Robinson of Prime Management were presented with the award for Managers’ Manager, sponsored by SJM Concerts, by their long-term clients New Order.

FEAR’s Debbie Gwyther was awarded Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by YouTube Music, and Lewis Capaldi was named Artist of the Year.

The award was sponsored by Selina and included an all-expenses paid week-long trip to Columbia to use the facilities at Selina Music Studio Medellin, which Capaldi passed on to a brand new artist, 21-year old Hull-born singer CHARLOTTE.

Neneh Cherry was also recognised for her trailblazing career and received the Facebook-sponsored Pioneer Award from her close friend, the actress Noomi Rapace.
