The shortlist for 2018’s Association of Independent Musicians (AIM) Independent Music Awards have been revealed.

Idles, Jorja Smith and Let’s Eat Grandma are among the names nominated across the award’s 16 categories, which were announced at a launch event in London last night.

Punk quintet and former M-Mag cover stars Idles lead the pack with four nominations. Jorja Smith and Let’s Eat Grandma both bagged three nominations each.

Last month, the public were asked to vote for their favourite live act of the year to decide the nominees for the award’s Best Live Act category.

The shortlisted acts that won the public vote were Cassia, DMA’s, Erasure, Idles and Steps.

Among the artists nominated in the Independent Album of the Year category were Jorja Smith for Lost & Found, Young Fathers for Cocoa Sugar and Shame for Songs of Praise.

Goat Girl, AJ Tracey and SOPHIE were all nominated for the UK Breakthrough of the Year award, joined by Jorja Smith and Idles.

AIM also announced that Young Urban Arts Foundation (YUAF) will be the charity sponsor of this year’s awards.

Kerry O'Brien, CEO/founder of YUAF said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be this year's charity partner for the AIM Awards. The Young Urban Arts Foundation's ethos heavily focuses on improving mental health and empowering young people to become independent, especially those wishing to pursue a career in the creative industries - so it is a perfect fit for us to raise awareness of our charity and Skip To The Beat programme.

We're honoured to have this opportunity and looking forward to the night, to generate as much funding possible for our Skip To The Beat programme and help young people go places’.
