From teaching himself how to play the piano at the age of 16, to producing some of the biggest songs in Afrobeat, Lekaa Beats is one of the young pioneers responsible for showcasing the ‘Afro sound’ in today’s mainstream.

Having worked with the likes of Young T & Bugsey, Wizkid, Dappy and Not3s, Lekaa has already proved he has what it takes to hang with the heavy hitters.

With early influences such as American music producer Boi1da and insights into the music industry from experienced artist managers Mo and Kilo of 2K Management, he has crafted his own unique sound.

Read all about him.

From where?

What’s the story?

Lekaa’s musical journey began at the age of 16 with aspirations to become a pianist. The inspiration behind this lay in one of his favourite cartoons from his childhood, Tom & Jerry. To be specific, it was episode 29 – The Cat Concerto that was responsible for his decision.

Lekaa was raised by his parents in a Nigerian household along with three other siblings, his two older brothers and younger sister. Growing up, he was the only musical individual in the family. When he left school to further his musical endeavours, there were no courses that focused solely on helping him become a professional pianist so in an attempt to ensure he was still doing something he loved, Lekaa decided to study music technology. On this course, he learned how to use Logic which sparked his interest in production.

At university, Lekaa produced one of his first hits. This was shortly followed by a placement with the now globally recognised artist Afro B on the song Personal Lover saw him acknowledged by the likes of us Sneakbo, Tion Wayne, Mr Eazi and many others.

Fast forward to 2020 and Lekaa believes music has given him the focus to know what he wants for himself in life. His contribution to the debut album of Young T & Bugzy, Plead the Fifth, has propelled him to heights anew and 2021 promises to be a great year for him.
