Featured Artist - Holly Walker

Holly Walker is a piano-bashing songstress from London who writes punchy, knowing tunes that provoke both sobbing and raving simultaneously. Classically informed piano and razor sharp vocals collide with scatty, homemade beats and whatever gritty sounds she can crank out of her laptop. Holly is this week's PRS for Music Featured Artist.

Channeling everything from folk to hip hop to dubstep, this stuff makes you want to throw shapes, yet is driven always by soulful, intelligent lyrics. Holly is this week's PRS for Music Featured Artist.

In 2010 Holly self-released and gave away her debut EP Sob Stories, including the subtly titled I Need Cash, which pointedly demonstrates her talents in observational lyricism and accomplished musicianship. This was further cemented by her ‘A Month of Sundays’ project, which saw Holly post an original song every day for thirty days onto YouTube, attracting over 18,000 hits. However, new recordings see Holly moving from largely acoustic to more beat-lead songwriting, experimenting with a drum machine and proving that pop music can be at once mocking and moving. Aptly, Holly has given her forthcoming EP the working title of Bedroom Bangers! from which her most recent songs Modern Life and Like I Do (the latter produced by Jakwob) are taken.

A competent hook and top line composer, Holly also writes for other artists and she has co-written on a variety of projects, from fronting funk-rock bands to warbling for trip hop and electronica outfits. Currently in the studio working on the albums of Jakwob and new hip hop talent Adian Coker, Holly’s songwriting portfolio continues to expand and will see her guesting on various releases later this year. This of course is alongside the release of her own EP, which BBC Introducing have taken early interest in, asking Holly to perform live on BBC Radio London as a featured artist.
