From the pop-bliss of Dua Lipa to the industrial riot of Petbrick, there’s something for everybody in February’s first New Music Monday.
Dua Lipa – Physical
Dua Lipa is back in an explosion of colour with Physical. The second single from her upcoming album Future Nostalgia, Physical is a perfect hybrid of the stomping basslines of the eighties and girlband power choruses of the nineties. Nostalgia, indeed.
Happyness – Vegetable
It’s been a long three years without London duo Happyness, but thankfully they’re finally back with new song Vegetable. Its drawling guitars build into a beautiful acoustic chorus, perfect for chilly February days. Welcome back, guys.
Shopping – For Your Pleasure
With fourth album All Or Nothing coming this Friday (7 February), post-punk trio Shopping have treated us to For Your Pleasure. A track with a no bullsh*t statement chorus and a steady pulsing beat, For Your Pleasure has anthem written all over it.
Ben Watt – Summer Ghosts
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Summer Ghosts was taken straight out of Ben Watt’s diary. The intricate, personal lyrics are accented by haunting piano and hints of synth. Best known for being one half of eighties duo Everything But The Girl, Watt’s latest offering, Storm Damage, is out now.
Petbrick – Gringolicker ($hit and $hine Remix)
With the concept behind Petbrick being to ‘make horrible noise’, the jury is out on Gringolicker. Almost completely overcome by static, the track thumps along with no mercy. If you’re a fan of edge-of-seat intensity, this one’s for you.
