The month of May has arrived which means summer is officially just around the corner, but the closer it gets, the further away it seems.
As absolute advocates of using music to ease those lockdown blues, we've pulled together our top five new releases in order to lift any dwindling spirits.
Up this week, we’ve got new tracks from Gorillaz, Glass Animals, Oh Wonder and more.
Gorillaz – How Far?
Gorillaz have released their latest offering How Far? early to honour drummer Tony Allen who sadly passed away last week (30 April). The track features Skepta on lead vocals, a collaboration that works so seamlessly we can’t help but wonder how this hasn’t been done before.
Oh Wonder – I Like It When You Love Me
Oh Wonder have been busy bees during lockdown. I Like It When You Love Me is the third release from their project, Home Tapes, which has seen them writing, recording, producing and releasing their own songs from their home studio.
Fenne Lily – To Be A Woman Pt.2
This inspiring track about reclaiming power is Fenne’s second single since signing to Dead Oceans. The soft vocals on To Be A Woman Pt.2’s are interspersed with deliberate loud guitars; a sonic reminder of the complicated and contradictory layers of womanhood.
Glass Animals – Dreamland
Dreamland is the title track of Glass Animals’ first full-length album since 2016’s Mercury Prize-nominated How To Be A Human Being. The minimalist track is accompanied by a lockdown-appropriate build your own music video.
Aluna – Body Pump
Aluna is best known as being one half of electric-duo AlunaGeorge. Body Pump is her first solo release and it’s truly a banger. It's all too easy to imagine dancing to this in a club when this is all over. We cannot wait.
