Each week a artist or band are promoted on PRS for Music's MySpace page - highlighting the talent and diversity of its membership.
A Genuine Freakshow are a firmly bonded septet brought together in the Reading area from a desire to blend their love of the experimental with the melody and traditional song-writing prowess of the likes of band favourites Elbow, Mew and The National. The band have found their sweet spot, creating a music that is intricate but unafraid of big melodies. With a line-up that adds violin, cello and trumpet to the standard rock four-piece of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, their live shows are a master class in how to do epic without slipping into pompous.
The group spent the majority of 2009 writing and recording, before setting off in 2010 on a whirlwind journey that would see them playing over 80 live festival, showcase and tour dates up and down the UK. All the hard work paid off, and after a feature on the The Word's October issue cover CD, November 2010 saw the release of their debut album - Oftentimes.
Never ones to sit still for too long, A Genuine Freakshow's new single Hopscotch Machine Gun Madness, released 14 March, is the second single to be taken off their album and captures the true spirit of the eclectic seven-piece.
