SOFT LAD - 2 Know U Betta
SOFT LAD is the new project from Sophie Galpin, of Self Esteem and SOAK fame, and her new single is certainly living up to that mighty heritage. A familiar tale of being ghosted by someone you’re into, 2 Know U Betta is a euphoric slice of guitar pop and bodes well for Soft Lad’s impending debut EP release.
Franz Ferdinand - Curious
Taken from their upcoming first greatest hits collection, Curious feels like vintage Franz Ferdinand, a band that have always kept one eye on the dancefloor. This tale of a ‘meet-cute’ bounces along with one eyebrow raised suggestively and an irresistible instruction to dance, and slots in amongst their finest work.
George Ezra - Anyone For You
All is right with the world with George’s return. Sunny and upbeat, Anyone For You continues his joyful path through life, all toes tapping and hands aloft in the air. It’s got festival singalong written all over its happy face and is a sweet return to the charts for the Gold Rush Kid.
Walt Disco - How Cool Are You?
A live favourite for some time, How Cool Are You? continues to quietly cement Walt Disco’s place at the top table. Shining and shimmering, it carries an artsy Sparks-esque swagger and only whets the appetite even further for their debut album. Another top-quality addition to the canon of a band going from strength to strength.
Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama - Beg For You
When icons like this collide, sparks fly. This club banger from Charli XCX is already flying high before the arrival of Rina, but the pair go on to tag-team verses like the ultimate pop stars that they are. It’s classic Charli, taking elements of classic club pop and turning it into something inescapably now and the soundtrack to your nights ahead.
Central Cee - Cold Shoulder
We’re only a few weeks into 2022, and it’s already looking like a big year for UK hip-hop. The punchy Cold Shoulder only adds to that, brimming with attitude and throwing two fingers at any of the doubters who considered him to be a one-hit wonder. With that BBC Sounds Of listing under his belt and a string of hit tracks, those doubts are long gone.
Blossoms - Ribbon Around The Bomb
As sure as the first glimpse of snowdrops in the woods, a new single from Blossoms is a herald of brighter days and summer festivals to come. Ribbon Around The Bomb is a sunny bop of a track, easing the guitars to one side for a moment to bring the good times to the fore.
Lola Young - So Sorry
The first flash of what’s next following her nomination for BRIT Rising Star 2022, So Sorry shows a tender and vulnerable side to Lola. With the biggest tour of her career (so far) looming on the horizon, the hype and buzz around her is only going to increase from here.
Holly Humberstone - London Is Lonely
Another beautifully crafted and gorgeous moment from megastar-in-the-making Holly Humberstone, an artist who is quickly showing that all that hype and anticipation is well-placed. It’s hard to think of a pop star that’s arrived this fully-formed so early in their career, and tracks like London Is Lonely only make her more of a mainstay of the top tier of British pop. Next stop, the world.
Home Counties - Village Spirit
Never a band to sit still for long, Home Counties have returned with another slice of delicious multi-faced post-punk. In a genre that’s going from strength to strength, this track is full of musical left turns and dalliances down new avenues meaning that Village Spirit doesn’t ever quite go where you’re expecting it to, and is all the better for it.
