Derry based Wonder Villains will steal your heart with their fervent anti-pop and youthful exuberance. Their trademark two-minute songs are exhilarating and refreshingly honest in their approach: synths and motorik drums collide with tight guitar riffs and soaring hooks to form a heady brew of credible pop nuggets.

The band are brother and sister Kieran and Eimear Coyle, Cheylene Murphy and Ryan McGroarty, who all hail from the UK Capital of Culture 2013. Their chart-centric trio of singles – Zola, Ferrari and TV - has already won them extensive national radio coverage across BBC Radio 1 (playlisted), BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, XFM, Q and Absolute Radio.

Meanwhile latest release Blonde is now available to stream on their Bandcamp page, while B side Tiger can be downloaded for free.

We caught up with Eimear to find out more.

We first started writing music because…
I've always thought being in a band was the coolest thing in world. When I was younger everyone else's songs were too difficult to figure out so I had to write my own!

We have been making music since…
Primary school. Me and my brothers would make up songs to sing in the back of the car on the way to school. Eventually we learnt guitar and before I knew it we were in a band.

Our music is…
Pop music. It's music that people can dance, jump and smile to.

You'll like us if you listen to...
Weezer. The Blue Album has soundtracked many a Wonder Villains party. I love Rivers Cuomo and count him as my main fashion inspiration.

Our favourite venue is…
Probably The Limelight in Belfast. We played our first Belfast gig there back when it was called the Spring & Airbrake and we met our manager that night. Great day! Now that it's been all done up, it looks and sounds amazing. We always have a lot of fun when we play there.

Music is important because…
It brings people together in the best way. I've got to meet so many awesome people through music. Apart from my family, it's how I've met everybody I know. Thanks music!

Our biggest inspiration is…
Our favourite bands. Whenever I watch a documentary about Blondie or Ash or Fleetwood Mac or Beyonce, it inspires me so much to write songs and play music.

Our dream collaboration would be…
With Bruce Springsteen. He's my favourite guy.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Blonde. It's our new single and it's got a different sound to our previous songs and we really like it. It's partly about my hair and is real fun to play live. DISCO!

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
In a rollerskate gang I would hope.

In 10 years time we want to be...
Living on a big Wonder Villains boat and touring the world, one coast at a time.
