Who? Vanishing Twin are singer Cathy Lucas (Orlando, Fanfarlo, Innerspace Orchestra), drummer Valentina Magaletti (Tomaga, Raime, Neon Neon) and bassist Susumu Mukai (aka Zongamin), with library music head Phil M.F.U. (Man From Uranus) on strange sounds and filmmaker/visual artist Elliott Arndt on flute and percussion.

What? Interplanetary pop and electronic exotica.

From where? London.

What’s the story? With a leftfield musical pedigree as distinguished as theirs, Vanishing Twin’s meeting of minds seems almost inevitable.

Separately, all five of them have been making strides into the sonic unknown for a decade or more. Each with their own unique form of arkestral improvisation, they’ve had a hand in some of the UK’s most weird and wobbly records and collaborated with the likes of Tom Furse (The Horrors), Shit and Shine and Floating Points.

But it was Cathy’s singular motivation that really got things moving for Vanishing Twin. Having released a string of out-there cassettes on her own RAM label under the name of Orlando, she reached out to Valentina, Susumu, Phil and Elliot to form something more meaty.

Together as a five-piece, they’ve been breathing new life into esoteric electronica and psychic groove since 2015.

Last year they teamed up with producer Malcolm Catto (Heliocentrics, Gas Lamp Killer), who helped wrap their songs in layers of sub-aquatic obscurity. The resulting album, Choose Your Own Adventure, was released via Soundway Records last September, and marked one of 2016’s finest debuts.

Now back with the spectacular EP Dream By Numbers, and with a string of live dates in the diary (see below), Vanishing Twin's oblique pop sound is only set to gather pace this summer. And, with more studio time booked in for July, expect some more sonic adventures to arrive on wax this autumn...

Sounds like? Stereolab meets Sun Ra.

Predicted to? Send you on a one-way trip to Mars.

Must hear? Million Dollar Mermaid, the lead track on the new EP and a thing of electronic beauty…
