Who? Tom Walker.

What? Hip-hop beats meets traditional songwriting... with a pinch of northern charm for good measure.

From where? Born in Scotland, raised in Manchester.

What’s the story? It's been a big year for Tom: his track Just You and I went top 30 in Billboard's AC chart, he was added to the BBC Radio 1 Brits List and his heartfelt acoustic rendition of Blessings was featured on BBC Two's Saturday night Glastonbury coverage.

Add over 41 million streams of his music to the mix and it's clear why the singer and multi-instrumentalist's name has appeared on so many 'ones to watch' lists this year.

Raised in Manchester on his dad's extensive record collection, artists like Ray Charles, The Police and Bob Marley caught his attention early on and remain musical influences today.

Since then, his layered production and soulful electronica has caught on fast on both sides of the pond, with sold-out tours and support slots for the likes of George Ezra, Gallant and Jake Bugg, as well as upcoming US tour dates with The Script.

In March this year, Elvis Duran handpicked him as Artist of the Month on NBC’s Today Show and he made his US TV debut with an interview and explosive performance of Just You And I.

New single Heartland – co-written and produced with Naughty Boy – has just hit the airwaves and will no doubt build even more buzz as he prepares for his biggest tour yet.

Sounds like? Soulful, powerhouse vocals with undeniable hooks.

Predicted to? Blow listeners and critics away with his debut album, due for release early next year. Bestival-goers won't want to miss his set this Friday (8 September).

Must hear? New single Heartland -
