If you're into US alt-rock from 1991 onwards, chances are your ears will be sympathetic to The Divers. This new London based quartet reference the likes of Pearl Jam, Wilco and Band Of Horses with their rich melodies and anthemic sound.

Since they formed last summer, the band have been cutting their teeth the old fashioned way on the capital's live circuit. So far, they’ve brought their hook-filled guitar sound to venues including The Lexington, Barfly, Hoxton Bar and Grill and The Borderline.

The band's debut single A Little Better was released last November through singles label Laissez Faire Club. It quickly gained playlist support at NME, Q and Amazing Radio. Follow-up single The Way You Are is due for release next month. It offers another breathless slice of three-minute indie rock.

Recorded over a spring weekend with friends Escapists in South London, it's the sound of a band who have found a sound they're comfortable with and are ready to make substantial strides forward.

We caught up with Pete Hickman from the band ahead of the release to find out more…

We first started writing music because…
I felt it was something that was quite natural to me. I just started making up melodies as a child and then I just put them together with a guitar and I've been doing the same thing ever since. The process has been the same since I was 12 years old. I think it's important to keep that naive approach - that way you never know what's going to happen next.

We have been making music since…
As The Divers, we've been together since 2012.

Our music is…
We've been compared to everyone from Lemonheads to Manchester Orchestra to Wilco. Nineties alternative music seems to be something people keep coming back with, but with a distinctly British feel. We feel we're paying homage and almost playing a game of musical tennis with our US influences. Hopefully we can give something back.

You'll like us if you listen to...
Band of Horses, Pearl Jam, Wilco.

Our favourite venue is…
The Lexington in London. I saw Yeasayer play a secret gig there and thought how great it would be to play there, and we did earlier this year.

Music is important because…
Without it, life seems quite dull.

Our biggest inspiration is…
When people say how our music has affected them and how much they have enjoyed it.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Wow, there are so many. Jeff Tweedy, Eddie Vedder, Neil Finn, Neil Young. What a dream any of these would be.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Our new single The Way You Are. It really captures the essence of what we're about and has an almost live feel, which suits us down to the ground.

If we weren't making music we’d be…
Hopefully being creative in different ways, whether through artistic means or whatever way possible.

In 10 years time we want to be…
Making records and touring the world.
