Though they've been dubbed 'East London's answer to The Strokes' or 'Dalston's Kaiser Chiefs', Spector's melancholic widescreen pop owes as much to the likes of Roxy Music and Pulp and has more than a touch of the New Romantic about it.
Frontman Fred Macpherson (late of a few indie bands, also a sometime MTV presenter and former boyfriend of Peaches Geldof) had spent a few months writing songs in his bedroom with just a Casio keyboard and a few Gloria Estefan samples for company before forming Spector in 2010. The band honed their skills in an East London snooker club, before graduating to sessions for Radio 1's Huw Stephens and a slot on the Introducing Stage at 2011's Reading and Leeds Festival.
Three well-received singles appeared on Luv Luv Luv Records, appearances at the Camden Crawl and an entry in the NME's Cool List for Macpherson haven't hurt their reputation either, and in November 2011 they graced the set of Later with Jools Holland. A debut album is set for release in 2012, as well as a support slot on tour with Florence + The Machine, so major exposure is assured for these bright young things.
