Smith & Royal is a sound like no other and is the unmissable act set to smash into the big time in 2011. Boiling with ideas, energy and passion and taking the best pop, roots, swing & dance, Smith & Royal is feel good pop music that will make you dance. Smith & Royal is is this week's PRS for Music Featured Artist.

Smith & Royal has grabbed the attention of industry tastemakers, having worked with the cream of UK producers and mix engineers including Jason Cox (Blur, Gorillaz), Andrew Dawson (Kanye West) Jony Rockstar (Sugababes, Amy Winehouse), Cameron Mcvey (Massive Attack), Jason Boshoff (Basement Jaxx), Kensal Town (James Morrison), KGee (All Saints), Pete Craigie (Sly & Robbie, Stevie Wonder), Adrian Hall (Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys) and other top rated production houses in London, New York and LA.

All that’s good in music has influenced the Smith & Royal flavour. From dancehall sound systems and spinning double basses to jive, swing and pop. Smith & Royal’s familiar retro “doo wop” sounds sit alongside a modern twist of sound system carnival vibes. It’s like arriving at an Adidas House Party in a Cadillac with legendary DJ Kool Herc. It’s fun, high tempo, totally unique and carries an edgy, cool vibe. The name itself shows the two sides of the project; Smith for the big bass sound system attitude and Royal for the pop, fun feel.

Comparisons have been made to a female fronted Outkast, Madcon, Fatboy Slim and Gnarls Barkley all meeting Kellis on the dancefloor at your favourite gig. But Smith & Royal has its own unique sound and with the sexy imprint of a female front – Kelly-Marie Smith. Her South London roots and Jamaican/Spanish roots are clear for all to hear.

Kelly-Marie may be remembered by some as Little Sister having released Way of life at the tender age of 12 and going on to front The Shapeshifters Album Sound Advice (2006). The single Incredible (EMI/Positiva) was a summer smash on both Radio and A list TV stations, which led to her first Top 10 hit in March 2006, and later charting with numerous other hits. Now the creator of Smith & Royal, it is clear that this artist from London Town is ready to shine.

You can listen to Smith & Royal tracks Jordan Stomp, Reprise and Let It Out on PRS for Music's MySpace page.
