Who? Shaking Chains are Jack Mahoney (lead vocals/guitar), Nathan Mcilroy (bass/vocals), Alex Solo (guitar/vocals) and Jack Hardiker (drums/vocals).
What? Eccentric art-rock.
From where? Manchester originally, now based in London.
What’s the story? Shaking Chains borrow their name from The Masque of Anarchy, a 19th century political poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Just like their namesake, the band rail against the status quo, using words and rhythms to break repetitive cultural patterns.
They’ve been playing together for a few years now, but their debut AA single Midnight Oil/Drunk No More only lands on vinyl later this week (24 March).
Spilling over with street-wise spoken word and lean guitar spikes, it’s a musical shot in the arm for fans of austere rock ‘n’ roll.
Don’t miss their single launches in Salford (Eagle Inn, 25 March) and London (The Islington, 29 March).
Sounds like? The best new thing you’ll hear this spring.
Must hear? Drunk No More or Midnight Oil...
