Who? Monique Lawrence

What? Capital city grime/trap/hip-hop mix-up.

From where? North London.

What’s the story? Singer songwriter Monique Lawrence is fresh on the map, with a debut EP in the pipeline for October.

Its signature track, Aeroplanes, features leading ladies Shystie and Ms Banks, and introduces Monique as a credible contender.

The Joey Dyer-produced set combines a heady brew of electro, sharp hip-hop and R&B, and proves there’s a lot more than meets the eye with this upcoming talent.

The release follows Monique’s first single, On, which dropped earlier this year, and expands on a musical palette already heaving with 808s and bass.

With plaudits rolling in from the likes of MOBO.com and MTV, it’s surely just a matter of time before the north London songstress starts making some serious waves.

Sounds like? Banging hip-hop meets classic R&B.

Predicted to? Win serious props for her Shystie/Ms Banks collaboration.

Must hear? Brand new track Aeroplanes.
