Glasgow is one of the UK’s most fertile breeding grounds for all forms of dance music.

Over recent years, DJs and producers including Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Optimo and Jackmaster, have done much to ensure that the city’s night life and music rivals London for sheer quality, energy and eclecticism.

The Sub Club is one of the main raving grounds for Glasgow so it’s no surprise that the latest musical talent to emerge is closely linked with the venue. As son of Harri, proprietor of legendary night Subculture, and flat mates with DJ/hell raiser Jackmaster, the electronic credentials of Jasper James are second to none. Jasper also holds the rare accolade of being the youngest DJ ever to play at the Sub Club.

Taught to mix by his dad at the tender age of 13, he’s always had access to a huge range of house and techno - it’s a huge influence Jasper has successfully shown off in a recent Essential Mix and eclectic sets on Rinse FM.

This week sees the unveiling of his debut EP Sneaky via the Optimo Trax imprint. All three tracks - Sneaky, Listen to my Buttons and V-Moog - blend shades of classic Underground Resistance and Joey Beltram with energetic 21st century bleeps and rhythm. The tracks are staples in the sets of DJs such as Skream! and Bicep and should be soundtracking a warehouse rave near you…
