Who? Izzie Gibbs.
What? Quick-fire grime rhymes.
From where? Northampton.
What’s the story? Izzie has been flaunting his witty wordplay for the best part of three years, proving that London isn’t the only home of UK grime worth noting.
In 2014 he signed to Dice Recordings after impressing label bosses with his hyped up opening shows on Big Narstie’s Base Defence League tour.
Turns out they made a good bet - Izzie's debut EP for them, Project X, garnered backing from top drawer DJs Target, Mistajam, Cameo and Logan, while follow-up Jutsu picked up national airplay via BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Sloth.
Last year, big hitter Stormzy brought him out on stage at Detonate festival and, marking a stellar year for the fast-flowing MC, Izzie also won Best Newcomer at the 2016 Urban Music Awards.
The hype has now reached a new level, thanks to his hook-up with Big Narstie on My Life clocking up over 800,000 views, and the arrival of his brand new EP, Yin Yang.
A meaty, beaty collection of hits, it features collabs with Young T and Bugsey, Narstie and Tremz, and shows there’s more to this fast-rising MC than bravado and brags.
Sounds like? One of grime’s most vital new voices.
