Who? Cosima.

What? Deep, dark, soulful pop.

From where? Peckham, South London.

What’s the story? Cosima’s soul-searching sound digs deep into her emotional well, drawing up past experiences and gloomy revelations for her raw vocal talents.

The Island Records-signed artist first showed herself last year on Lil Silva's Caught Up (from the Jimi EP).

Since then, she released the ambitious mixtape South of Heaven, and also dropped a couple of  standalone heart-wrenchers.

Her latest, To Build a House, landed last Friday (3 February), and serves up her usual bold R&B flavours but with extra heartache.

The vocals were recorded in one take immediately after she’d finished the lyrics.

‘This song started as a poem I wrote about my father,’ she explains in a Facebook post to fans.

‘I think it captured the exact moment that I finally resolved something that had always felt so open-ended to me. The process of writing this song and sharing those feelings with other people that evening made me feel less alone.’

It’s this ability to tap into deep emotional undercurrents that marks her out as a big talent waiting to break…

Sounds like? You can file this one next to Adele, Frances and Jorja Smith.

Predicted to? Go down a storm at Village Underground, London, on 23 February when she opens for Ray BLK.
