Who? Scottish songwriter and composer Christopher Duncan.
What? Charming, pastoral, alternative folky, full of dreams and intricate harmonies.
From where? Glasgow to be precise.
What’s the story? C Duncan’s musical beginnings can be traced back to a formal composition training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as well as being the offspring of two classical musicians.
Hints of his background can certainly be heard in the music he’s unveiled to date. For, taken from a debut album expected to emerge next summer, is an intricate window into his music, a beautifully arranged slice of indie pop reminiscent of fellow Glaswegians Camera Obscura or Belle and Sebastian.
It was this song he submitted to indie label FatCat as a demo which caught their attention and resulted in him being their latest signing. Since they previewed it on their Soundcloud, the song has gained much love, being played by Lauren Laverne on her BBC 6 Music show and creating some real excitement for a debut LP proper. Christopher has been busy recording and working away in his bedroom studio with the results of his labour now expected to emerge in 2015. Live shows are also being planned as we speak…
Sound like? Sufjan Stephens and The Pastels together on a camping holiday.
Predicted to? Be the soundtrack to a long, hot summer for discerning music lovers across the land…
Must hear? For is the perfect introduction to a serious new talent.
What’s next? A debut album and live show are both in the diary for 2015.
