What? A knock-out vocalist and songwriter blending edgy beats with gospel and R&B.
From where? North West London.
What’s the story? It’s been little over a year since Basheba dropped her first track through Soundcloud, but she’s already got musical heavyweights Rudimental, Lyracis and Writer’s Block queuing up to work with her.
The attraction is obvious – she has a lightness of touch and a vocal warmth that’s as deep as her production tastes are varied.
With whip-cracking beats and dirty drum n bass rhythms, she’s always up for experimenting, looking for new ways to channel her laidback storytelling style.
Her debut EP Bad Friends, Good Enemies emerged late last year from a recording session with bass producer Dean Barratt (Shy FX, Jakwob, Dismantle).
Together, they created standout track Hold On, which had enough legs to catch the attention of SBTV, MOBO Unsung and BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Now back in the studio, the pair are working hard on new material that should see the light of day later this year.
With a Jordan Reece collaboration in the bag, and remixes from TWB and Yo Yo Boy, it looks like everything’s falling into place for this exciting new homegrown R&B talent.
Sounds like? Old school gospel meets new school R&B meets drum n bass mash-up.
Predicted to? Guest on a big-name single sometime soon…
Must hear? No More – it's meaty, beaty, big and bouncy...
