Who? Afriquoi are globe-trotting seven-piece André, Jally, Oli, Andre, Nico, Fiston and Kudaushe.
What? Live Afro-electronics.
From where? The band live and work in London, but they hail from as far and wide as the Caribbean, Africa and UK.
What’s the story? Afro-dance outfit Afriquoi emerged from London’s cultural melting pot back in 2011 with their flavoursome fusion of brisk beats and snaking melodies.
Blending sounds from sub-Saharan Africa with electronics, theirs is an inclusive vibe, built for swinging limbs.
With just enough house, soca and hip-hop in their mix of Gambian kora, Congolese guitar and Mandinka, they’ve hit on a unique recipe that’s all theirs.
The 2012 track Kudaushe officially announced the band’s arrival, and its marimba workout has since spread round the globe, taking the Afriquoi name with it.
Fast forward to 2016 and the band have an acclaimed debut album under their belts (Kolaba) and have wowed crowds at Glastonbury, WOMAD, Dimensions, Shambala, Bestival and the Secret Garden Party.
Now with PRS for Music Foundation’s Momentum Fund support, they’re all set for their next musical onslaught...
Don’t miss them live across the UK later this summer (dates below).
Sounds like? The most eclectic party music you'll hear all summer...
