30 Seconds: Young Believers

Young Believers are a folk/beat band. They often get compared to Bright Eyes but are more influenced by Bert Jansch and Dylan. They’ve been lucky enough to support Willy Mason, The Mystery Jets, The Rifles, The Fratellis and other top artists.

Young Believers are a folk/beat band. They often get compared to Bright Eyes but are more influenced by Bert Jansch and Dylan. They’ve been lucky enough to support Willy Mason, The Mystery Jets, The Rifles, The Fratellis and other top artists. They've spent 30 seconds telling M more.

How long have you been making music?
Since I was 5 years old. I started out by jabbing at my first Casio keyboard, or singing over the demo song, and making up little ditties for my lovely dog, the late, great and dearly missed Bonnie. My first song I wrote was entitled Bonnie I Love You.

What inspired your latest album?
Two things, Chinese girls and death. Strange but true.

What process do you go through to create your music?
Tom reads Richard Dawkins and writes about animals. I sit around thinking about stuff. Then I put some music to my jumbled thoughts

How would you describe your sound?
Gentle melodies, minor keys, jangly guitars, spidery guitar lines and shouty choruses.

What would your dream collaboration be?
I was asked this question before and I said Lady Gaga. I've since become 99% vegetarian and wouldn't be able to put up with her smelly meaty clothes. I'm gonna say Ronnie Wood, heard an interview with him the other day. Seems like he would be a laugh.

Where can we catch you performing next?
This Saturday, we are playing an intimate acoustic gig in York. Check our Facebook for details.
