Tinderbox are a UK based acoustic duo featuring vocalist Monique Houraghan and guitarist Dan Tucker. The pair met at university in 1994 and began writing and performing together. They have produced five studio albums and have received high praise from the likes of Tom Robinson, who described their music as 'gorgeous'.

Their new album, Counting Time, is released on 29 March. The album features a range of genres from Americana and folk ballads to jazz and contemporary pop.

How long have you been making music?
We met at university and started writing original music together in 1997.

What inspired your latest album?
Some tracks were inspired by people we met and places we visited during a US tour in 2010.  Other tracks cover a number of topics including nostalgia and domestic violence so it's a mixed bag.

What process do you go through to create your music?
Sometimes I (Dan) write the guitar music first and Monique follows with the lyrics and melody. Other times Monique writes the songs from scratch and then we create a duo arrangement together.

How would you describe your sound?
Acoustic Magazine described us as "...lovely, hooky, mellow" which we hope is pretty accurate. We're both heavily inspired by most of the early '70s singer-songwriters; and we hope that comes across in our music.

What would your dream collaboration be?
That's tough...but as you asked probably James Taylor, Adam Duritz, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne...all in the same band.

Where can we catch you performing next?
Our next show is an album preview concert on 21 March which has sold out.  We then kick off a short promotional tour on March 30th at the Regal Rooms in Hammersmith.
