This week M spends 30 seconds with Carl Doggett of Norfolk-based band the Doggett Brothers, who were brought up on the sounds of Jamiroquai, Incognito, The Average White Band, Roy Ayers and Prince. They have been endorsed by the likes of Jazz FM, Snowboy and Blues and Soul Magazine, and were featured on the Soul Unsigned Vol. 4 compilation.
How long have you been making music?
My brother and I first started making music together back in 1999, when we formed our first ever band together, up to the present with our new band - The Doggett Brothers.
What inspired your latest single/EP/album?
A crazy music jam with some awesome musicians turned into a studio project resulting in an EP and now working very hard on finishing our album!
What process do you go through to create your music?
My brother creates and writes a lot of our music. He lays down various tracks i.e. guitar, bass, keys etc on his music program Reason, using his Mac. I play drums myself but also work closely with my bro and our vocalist. Whenever I have moments of inspiration like melodies and lyrics, i will always record them by singing them on my phone! We also create and experiment by jamming stuff out in the rehearsal room then record it, then we structure it out and write vocals after.
How would you describe your sound?
Breakbeat, soul, funk, jazz, latin/house, dance, electro etc. We are a serious crossover of different styles of music with our very own sound.
What would your dream collaboration be?
Dream collaboration? One word..... Prince!! ha ha
Where can we catch you performing next?
