How long have you been making music?
We were both in a band, ‘Pretty Blue Gun’, signed to an indie label in the mid-nineties. We formed Fitzsimon and Brogan in 2008 and have released two albums, Songs of Love and Revenge and Venus in Reverse.
What inspired your latest album?
Well, that’s a tough one. I suppose we aim to make every song as instant and as catchy as possible – but we put a twist on it and I suppose the lyrics can be quite bitter and vengeful. They’re love songs – but they’re coming from the dark side.
What process do you go through to create your music?
I write on guitar and basically I just play around until I find a riff or a melody that sticks, then build it from there. But I would say, without a good melody, there’s no song. I believe a writer should have an eclectic taste and the ability to mix and match from various genres.
How would you describe your sound?
Well, I hope that we’re trying to take song writing back to the golden days of the 1960s but with a modern twist. Fundamentally, it’s classic guitar pop with the emphasis on quality.
What would your dream collaboration be?
It’d have to be Elvis Costello and John Lennon. Although I wouldn’t want to disagree with either of them – as I most probably wouldn’t get out of the room alive!
Where can we catch you performing next?
No gigs, I’m afraid – strictly studio based. All the stuff we do now is being pitched to American TV and film by our American publishers, Conexion Entertainment. We’re currently working with Pat Collier who produced Katrina and Waves’ Walking on Sunshine. Pat also produced our two albums, Songs of Love and Revenge and Venus in Reverse, which are now available for download on iTunes and Amazon.
