Kaila Whyte, Miles Cocker, Marcus Perks are the musical guts and groin of Youth Man, a Birmingham trio who lay claim to being the loudest band in the UK.

Describing their sound as ‘sex punk’, the group are rapid and unafraid of confrontation, exploring tyranny, Western hypocrisy and the human body to challenge and charm audiences in equal measure.

Debut single Heavy Rain was the perfect sucker punch introduction to them, a release which led to them picking up heat from Zane Lowe and Amazing Radio and leading to gigs with Sleaford Mods and Pissed Jeans.

They’re now gearing up to release latest record Wax and head out on tour, including a headline slot at the Punk London showcase at The Roundhouse. Look out for them on tour and get to know them in our 30 seconds interview with frontwoman Kaila…

We first started writing music because…
We weren't hearing the music we wanted so had a crack at making it ourselves.

We have been making music since...
2012. I think.

Our music is…
L
ike an orgy, great if you're into it but if you're not then a bit weird.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
The Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, your mother.

Our favourite venue is…
The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham. It's home for us. We've been playing shows there since we started out and I don't think we'll ever stop.

Music is important because…
It brings people together man.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Sean Bean.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Too much choice! If we can take the liberty of choosing one each, then Kim Deal, Nick Zinner and Richard Hawley.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Fat Dead Elvis. Rox 'ard. It's our latest single taken from our upcoming EP.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
A carpenter, a butcher, deceased.

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Homeowners. As millennials, getting a leg up on the property ladder is pretty difficult.

Youth Man will be playing at The Roundhouse's Punk Weekender, 8-10 July 2016 Get tickets from roundhouse.org.uk.
