Wolf Alice are Ellie Rowsell (vocals), Joff Oddie (guitar), Joel Amey (drums), Theo Ellis (bass), a North London four-piece who make infectious, harmony ridden grunge pop. Some times. Their music veers effortlessly from folk to more riot grrrl influenced sonics, showing off an accomplished way with a song.
Named after a short story by Angela Carter and originally Ellie’s solo project, the group have acquired a loyal following since they released their debut self-titled EP back in 2012.
The likes of Fluffy, Leaving You and Bros recall The xx, Haim or Elastica at their best - bristling with ideas, invention and harmonies, they’re unafraid to flex some serious muscle and bare some heavier teeth. This ability to flit between musical styles and live energy has earned them a loyal following and NME cover. I can only speak for myself but I don't think I started writing music for any reason, I just tried it out. Although I do remember one of my friends performing a song she wrote to our mums and I was really jealous so it was probably that subconsciously.
We have been making music since...
November 2012 together I think but we've all made music for quite a long time either on our own or with different people. Joel was in an awesome band called Mafia Lights from the age of 13 and I used to write ballads about all the sixth form boys I was in love with when I was the same age.
Our music is…
Still finding it's feet. We have an eclectic variety of inspirations and are still learning to hone this into one sound. It can be to our benefit though as hopefully there is something for everyone in our music.

Our favourite venue is…
The Purple Turtle in Mornington Crescent. It's run by a man named Leon, he's the prince of Camden and looks like a handsome pirate. It plays loads of different kind of music, lots of metal but it had a massive grime night the other day with JME. He also has skaters down there and Haim have played too. It’s always intimate and always fun.
Music is important because…
It's an amazing form of creativity that can inspire a million different things.
Our biggest inspiration is…
The Simpsons. We recently wrote a very serious song about Lisa Simpson and we're hoping to complete a song for each character. Not joking but more seriously I think we are inspired by lots of different bands, bands like the Brian Jonestown Massacre as well as the desire to make the acoustic guitar sound extremely cool. We love Queen of The Stone Age and their take on rock music, Jack White's guitar sounds and Nirvana's use of pop melody against heavy guitars and harrowing lyrics etc. We are also inspired by films and books we read too.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Justin Timberlake probably, but anyone we're not fussy.
