London electronic producer William Arcane specialises in making shuffling, emotive bleeps aimed at heart and feet.

Since emerging last year with his warmly received debut Permanence EP, William has been played out by the likes of Bonobo and Jamie XX as well as earning comparisons to both these artists.

It’s testament to his sound design skills and sleek production abilities that he’s gained such plaudits so quickly. William has been holed up in his London studio honing his music ever since only breaking cover to tour with much loved indie outfit Glass Animals.

Now he’s prepping a second EP - Stay a While - for the Picture Music label. It’s a balance of mood and beauty and points to a great looking future.

We get to know William and his music a little better in our 30 seconds interview…

I first started writing music because…
I was inspired by a performance from a distant relative, who when walking through a car park with us when I was very little, pulled out a harmonica from his breast pocket and just started shredding it up. I thought it was the coolest thing. The next time my mum took me into the city I bought a harmonica with my pocket money and a book on learning the blues in C major!

I have been making music since…
I was eight. That was when I got into instruments and decided that my life will consist mostly of being on my own in a room with something that makes music.

My music is…
Wistful yet driven.

You'll like my music if you listen to…
Recordings of stones being dropped into a well from a moderate height.

My favourite venue is…
Oval Space in London. It has a great sound, great vibe and lovely staff as well.

Music is important because…
It is the only thing I have found in life that can vividly remind you of a certain time, place, or when you were last with someone that maybe isn't around anymore. It can then remind you of all the feelings, images and thoughts you had at that exact moment and make you feel them all again. It moves people.

My biggest inspiration is…
Watching any talented musician perform. It just makes me want to get better at what I do so I can make better music that I really enjoy.

My dream collaboration would be…
Making an electronic track with Radiohead. They would let me use all their synthesisers and drum machines while Thom Yorke lays down some sweet vocals!

To try me out, listen to my song…
Stay A While.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be...
Really lost. It's the only thing I'm good at!

In 10 years time I want to be…
An even better musician. I'd like to have built up my collection of synthesisers to a point where I need a bigger room to fit them all in!
