Take the feedback of the Jesus and Mary Chain, the riffs of the Ramones and Beach Boys harmonies, spend some time in a musical lab and you’ll probably end up with Wild Smiles.
This young three piece - Chris Peden (vocals, guitar), Joe Peden (vocals, bass) and Ben Cook (drums) - make a blistering, lovable racket. It’s the heavy riffing which first hits you round the ears before the melodies rise up out of their amps to drag you even further in.
Their quality songwriting hasn’t gone unnoticed - in the short time they’ve been together, the band have recently signed to Sunday Best, the label set up by BBC Radio 1 and Bestival’s Rob da Bank. Rob's musical taste buds are much respected meaning the band must be on to something special than for him to pay attention.
Not only that, but they’ve also landed themselves a separate publishing deal with Sunday Best/Domino Publishing Co that sees the two publishers come together in a joint venture for the first time. Latest single Fool For You is the first release to emerge from the bond and offers a short, sweet snapshot of their foot to the floor noise pop.
With recent support slots with Superfood and Drenge and a Paris show at David Lynch’s Club Silencio, the band are focusing on new release Fool For You and a forthcoming London gig at the Sebright Arms. They’re also recording a debut album which should have you grinning from ear to ear when its unveiled...
We first started writing music because…
After you've learnt every Gun's and Roses solo - you wanna start writing your own.
We have been making music since…
Wild Smiles started in late 2012.
Our music is…
Fast, melodic and to the point.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
If you like guitar driven music.
Our favourite venue is…
King Tut's in Glasgow.
Music is important because…
Music can help switch you off from the real world.
Our biggest inspiration is…
What's going on around us.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Brian Wilson to teach us more about harmonies
To try us out, listen to our song…
Fool For You.
If we weren’t making music we’d be…
In trouble ... but Ben would be a lawyer.
In 10 years time we want to be...
Still making records we're proud of!
