Wide Eyed Boy are a Liverpool based quartet immersing themselves in their hometown’s illustrious musical heritage.

Two parts British, one part German, and one part Australian, the band bonded over a shared love of Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) alumni The Wombats, The Zutons and Circa Waves.

Themselves now members of LIPA’s prestigious graduates club, they’re making serious waves with their debut single Wolves.

Fresh from a live slot at Camden Rocks last night, we spend some time with the anthemic indie outfit to learn more...

We first started writing music because…
We all met at uni and became mates. After playing our favourite music together for a while naturally the next thing for us to do was to start writing our own tunes. It went from there really.

We have been making music since…
We’ve all been making or playing music for as long as I can remember. Wide Eyed Boy is a fairly new project but we’ve all grown up singing in shows or playing in bands.  If we’re not watching the football, we're doing music!

Our music is…
We want our music to be uplifting and energetic. It’s really important to us that people have fun when they see us live - that's what we aim for every show.

You’ll like our music if you listen to…
Blossoms, The 1975 and The Killers.

Our favourite venue is…
It’s hard to pick just one, but Omeara in London is amazing. It’s newly refurbished and we recently played there. The atmosphere was amazing!

Music is important because…
You turn to music no matter what mood you're in. If you want to party or chill out and take a meaningful moment, music is the one. It's amazing, because when you lose yourself in it, it doesn’t matter where you are - on the bus, back from work or on holiday.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Life in general. That’s where we get all our inspiration from lyrically. All facets of human emotions inspire us massively.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Now this is something we always joke about... Tom and Kobi would do anything to have a Kanye collaboration, or someone like Chris Martin.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Wolves. It’s our first release and it’s one of our more moody tracks, however, still very energetic, especially in the choruses. It is a very personal song about self-sabotage and bad influences.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Very confused! It’s a weird thought. I’m pretty sure we’d all still be doing something in music. Maybe Olli could be doing something in fashion. Tom loves football, so he’d be managing a football club. Jonny would probably open his own pub and compose classical music and Kobi would probably become a professional dancer.

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Touring and recording our fourth or fifth album!
