TUSKS, aka Emily Underhill, inhabits a glacial sonic soundscape that mixes the icy melodies of Scandi-pop with the broken bass of late night London.

The new One Little Indian signing has turned heads and hearts with her first EP for the label, False, while a string of recent remixes has further upped her chips.

The latest, a reworking of her track Ivy by London producer Throwing Snow, crashed onto the blogosphere and BBC 1Xtra earlier this week, getting fans of broody, electronic pop all in a tizz.

We caught up with the recent M Featured Artist of the Week ahead of some anticipated live dates (info below) to learn more about her musical beginnings…

I first started making music because…
There was a piano in my parents’ house and I started playing when I was little.

I have been making music since…
I started writing (awful) songs when I was much younger but it wasn't until I was 18 that I started releasing music. I’m glad that it had time to improve through those years!

My music is…
A stream of unconscious thoughts mixed with reverberant guitars, pianos, glitchy noises, drums and other sounds I find.

You'll like my music if you listen to...
Daughter, London Grammar, James Blake.

My favourite venue is…
Birthdays in Dalston.

Music is important because…
It has such a powerful effect on people.

My biggest inspiration is…
Probably someone like Bjork. Woman power.

My dream collaboration would be…
With Justin Vernon.

To try me out, listen to my song…
False, if you want something big. For You if you want something delicate.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Probably still a water sports instructor. Or doing costume design for theatres.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Still releasing music. And have a dog.
