Too Many T's have been dubbed be ‘the UKs answer to the Beastie Boys". In a hectic year, they have hosted the Bestival warm-up party and have clocked up 75 gigs in 10 months – and they’ve done it all themselves. M caught up with them on the day of the launch of Earl Necks & Round Grey.
How long have you been making music?
Individually we've been making music for a few years but Too Many T's formed about a year ago in the summer of 2011. We've been mates for ages though and have regularly got drunk in front of microphones and computers over the years! Usually when that happens there's some music involved :)
What inspired your new single?
Our debut mixtape Earl Necks & Round Grey has been inspired by a collection of our favourite beats, samples and rhymes. We had so many we figured we should let people hear them!
What process do you go through to create your music?
There's not a formula like that, I don't think there can be. It's usually pretty natural and organic, we don't set times when we're gonna write or anything, it just kinda happens (refer to Q1 haha). We'll maybe start with one of us having an idea for a track or couple of sick bars that inspires the other. Or maybe a producer sends us a new beat that we just have to write to. Or maybe we find a fat sample we want to use in a track. We're lucky enough to work with some amazing producers, we're working with Savage Henry a lot at the mo.
How would you describe your sound?
We always say somewhere between Beastie Boys, Ugly Duckling and Rizzle Kicks, with a bit of Flight of the Concords mixed in.
What would your dream collaboration be?
Michael Jackson and Big Daddy Kane.
Where can we catch you performing next?
Oxjam, Brixton - 21 October
Fez Club, Cambridge - 25 October
Oxjam, Gloucester - 27 October
Toast, Falmouth - 31 October
Our EP Launch @ Cable, London - 1 December
