South coast indie quartet The Magic Gang have so far led a short but charmed life.

Forming in Brighton around 18 months ago, they’ve since travelled the length and breadth of Britain with their sunshine soaked guitar pop.

Together, Jack Kaye (guitar/vocals), Kristian Smith (guitar/vocals), Gus Taylor (bass) and Paeris Giles (drums) have struck on a sound that combines the beating heart of Rubber Soul era Beatles with the slack scuzz of the early nineties indie stalwarts Weezer and Teenage Fanclub.

Their riotous debut single No Fun/Alright, which was produced by Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Pains of Being Pure At Heart), dropped this spring and instantly caught the ear of leading indie tastemakers with its meaty riffs and steady swagger.

Having been dubbed ‘the best unsigned band in Britain’ moniker by DIY magazine, the quartet have since earned their chops sharing stages with the likes of Courtney Barnett and Happyness.

We recently caught up with the lads to find out more about their melodic mission…

We first started writing music because…
We collectively had a clear idea of the kind of music that we'd want to hear.

We have been making music since…
December 2013.

Our music is…
Traditionally inspired melodic pop songs, with an alternative influence.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
The Beach Boys, Dr Dog, Big Star, Weezer.

Our favourite venue is…
Bleach, in Brighton

Music is important because…
Music is universal and crucial to everyone's wellbeing.

Our biggest inspiration is…
The Beatles.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Brian Wilson

To try us out, listen to our song…
Check out our most recent single, No Fun.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Undoubtedly pursuing other creative endeavours.

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Travelling the world, playing music and continuing to create.

The Magic Gang are supporting Swim Deep on their UK tour this October.
