Eddy Bailhache and Tom Falle have been making noise together since they were eight years old. Fast forward 15 years and they now lead brand new art-pop outfit Teddy.

Although they’ve only released one proper single, Primate, Eddy and Tom are goading London’s indie community with their theatrical live set and a strong taste for sonic experimentation.

Their obscure touch points include seventies collaborations between David Bowie and Brian Eno, while eighties pioneers Talking Heads and The Smiths loom large in their sound.

Primate, which landed on 9 December, sets the agenda with a chaotic structure that dips between silence and melodic bedlam.

They steer away from lyrical convention too - songs about religious extremists, monotonous commuters and drag queens permeate their live show.

In the last nine months, the band have moved from hosting their Secret Teddy private parties to playing on festival line-ups alongside Fatboy Slim and The 1975.

During this period they have entertained London in live music staples such as The Barfly and The Garage, and hosted their own two-hour theatre show.

We spent 30 seconds with Tom to find out more…

We first started writing music because…
Playground football could only stimulate us so far. We came to this arrangement with the head of music at primary school, whereby anything was permitted in the music room at lunchtime, provided we set an example at recorder club...

We have been making music since…
We were eight years old.

Our music is…
Frequently described as theatrical and/or raucous. We aren't sure what to make of this. It's not all Liza Minnelli.

You'll like us if you listen to...
David Bowie, The Smiths, Talking Heads.

Our favourite venue is…
Notting Hill Arts Club or Hammersmith Apollo.

Music is important because…
It’s one of the prerequisites of a civilised society - like literature. It takes you up and out of the bloodthirsty pit that natural selection wants you to stay in.

Our biggest inspiration is…
The Beatles. Is that a cliché? We are obsessed though. Not like Oasis are obsessed with the quality of their tunes - we are more impressed by the spectrum of their creative output in their eight years of recording together.

Our dream collaboration would be...
Prince.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Primate.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Trying, crying or nude art modelling.

In 10 years time we want to be...
Dissatisfied with our output thus far - we want to want to make more noise.
